Training Series on 18 USC 208(b)(1) Waivers

This series is designed for ethics officials and others who have limited experience or familiarity with the statutory waiver authority at 18 USC section 208(b)(1). The series is presented in 3 parts.

Part 1 provides an overview of the statutory waiver authority and discusses the role that agencies and OGE play in the process from drafting to issuing individual waivers under 18 USC 208(b)(1).

Part 2 provides guidance and sample language for organizing and drafting complete waivers that meet the statutory requirements.

Part 3 outlines the process you will follow from submitting your draft waivers to OGE for review and consultation through final waiver issuance to recordkeeping and public release of final signed waivers.

On July 18, 2024 OGE issued PA-24-03 about a new practice of listing Information about individuals granted certain conflict of interest waivers.

This program qualifies for one Professional Ethics Practitioner (PEP) credit towards an annual PEP certificate. You can earn credits by attending qualifying virtual training events, workshops, and other educational engagements with OGE. To learn more about PEP, please review this page.
