Understanding Sector Funds

The Institute for Ethics in Government (IEG) is pleased to welcome members of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s ethics office, Ed Bowen, Kelsey Gaddy, and Michael Gleason, for a presentation on “Understanding Sector Funds.”

Presenters will discuss the ethics issues arising when federal employees own mutual funds. They will also discuss what a sector fund is, how to identify a sector fund, and how to apply 18 U.S.C. 208 exemptions to sector fund holdings.

Afterwards, they will take questions.

Slide Deck: The slide deck for this presentation is located on the right-hand side of this course page, under "Course Materials."

PEP Credit: This presentation qualifies for one Professional Ethics Practitioner (PEP) credit towards an annual PEP certificate. You can earn credits by attending qualifying virtual training events, workshops, and other educational engagements with the Office of Government Ethics. To learn more about PEP, please review the PEP Explainer: https://www.oge.gov/web/oge.nsf/PEP%20explainer.pdf

This offering is also part of the Office of Government Ethics' 2024 Summit on Election Readiness.
